^-^ Good vs bad is going to be my grading scale this time. ^_^
First the bad;
-Photoshop filters. I know someone mentioned it, and yes it is generally frowned upon to use photoshop filters. Generally being the key term. Specifically when we can recognize the filter and when it looks like you didn't even adjust the settings of the filter, that looks bad. It's alright to use filters, just practice extreme moderation-be really stingy and avoid using more than maybe one or two in any one picture, and make sure that it never outshines your work. In this particular picture, I can see that filter where the lines get all rainbow-y and I think it was neon-something. The other filter was on the buildings, I forgot what it was called completely. Maybe if you had cut out the buildings with the pen tool or using selections, it would have had a better impact. Also, if you had upped the contrast of the building cutout (separate from the rest of the picture parts) and then did a very subtle Gaussian blur it would have had that cut-out cartoon building looks, without being funny. That would fit your theme. ^_^
The buildings are obviously not cut out-I can see extra white space that only makes the image look clumsy. If you need advice or tips on how to cut out pics you can send a note to me or start a thread in the DA forums and I'm sure you'll get help.
The text-there's far too much of it in proportion to white/empty space. The text crowds the picture, you should have either shrunk the size or had less text.
The good;
This pic definitely has an old movie poster feel, and the picture itself isn't that bad.
The color contrast is good, orange stands out well against black.
Th text is funny, mainly because I'm pretty sure old movies really did talk like that. ^-^
The warp effect on the text, it was somewhat downplayed and interesting, it added to the overall look of the picture. ^-^
The last good was that there are technically more goods than bad, although the bad section looks longer because the filters explanation.
Overall 3.2/5-one last note that is too nit-picky to add into the critique, the document size. Posters are the width of printer paper but are the length of about 1 1/2 printer papers. (Some also use tabloid size, but that's a bit too big I think.)
So if I'm going to use the filter try to use them with a little more variety/creativity in mind instead of letting the filter simply alter the image and leave it at that. I will keep that in mind. Thanks.
Exactly, and make sure to change the settings of the filter. Like the 'halftone' filter is obvious when you leave it alone because the dots are too big, but if you make the size smaller and choose radial...suddenly it isn't as recognizable as a filter. Or if you make the dots really big, suddenly it looks like a polka dot pattern. Get the idea? Tweak the filters, and tweak the image after the filters. ^-^ Good luck!
I did many many versions of the poster using many many filters to get that 50's horror movie look for our theme. Apparently using Photoshop filters is very frowned upon (as I am finding out from other critiques) but I did it so it's too late to take it back now.

Aww lol, I'm not telling you it's shit or anything, I just want to be constructive to help you improve. That's why I set up the thread. It's all good and well to say "HEY THAT ROCKS" etc, but that won't help you progress. Every artist can progress, no one is perfect.
I knew that. I was just observing how many (if not most) artist frown upon the use of the Photoshop filters. Probably because it's viewed as a crutch or it's a standard cop out when actual design work will produce a more desirable effect.
